Those Who Come After

I made this work while thinking about birth and death, and about how strangely close they can feel. Since losing my mother, I have become very aware of what passes from one person to another, often without us even noticing: gestures, fears, ways of loving, memories, fragments of a life. I wanted the figures to exist together beyond ordinary time, as if the living, the dead and those not yet here could briefly occupy the same space. For me, the work is ultimately about what remains. We lose people, but we continue to carry them. And perhaps, one day, those who come after us will carry something of us too.
