An Ecology of Absence

Grief is often described as emptiness. I experience almost the opposite. Absence proliferates. It attaches itself to objects, landscapes, seasons, animals, conversations, fragments of colour. The person who has disappeared begins to exist everywhere except where we want them to be. An Ecology of Absence imagines mourning not as a void but as a living system, an environment in which memory continuously produces new forms of presence.
